introducing... Patrick Kelly - bass and vocals

The son of a former Southern Baptist Minister of Music, Patrick Kelly says that the first thing he can remember is singing songs with his father whether it was in the car or in the living room when he was around two or three years old. For years Patrick wandered from instrument to instrument until he picked up a bass guitar. Why the bass? Well, it was the only instrument that no one else wanted to play so it was a sure fire way to get into almost any band that he wanted to. Like Frank Zappa once said "No one wants to play the bass. Most bass players are failed guitarists." Such was the case with young Patrick when he was fifteen with the exception that he was a failed guitarist, saxophonist and drummer! He didn't really develop his own style until he began playing with The Goodies at age 19. Drummer Michael Allen told Patrick when he joined that he and Holiday saw Patrick as "a big dry sponge" that they intended on soaking through and through. When asked about his style of fretless playing he says that he developed it by "trying to compliment Holiday and Michael's playing as much as possible, the key is listening more than playing."
